Historical Kelp

I don't know if mentioned but not-mapped kelp forests of 1896 are of interest here? The US Fish Commission Ship Albatross is having difficulties staying clear of the kelp off the coast of California, and it seems to be major.

Just saying, we were noting that some of that information reminded us of your project. 😃

This is fantastic, thank you! This could be an awesome source of collaboration, as one analysis we'd like to do is to take historical kelp beds and note if they are seen during the 30 year timeseries we are generating. Perhaps we should talk off board, but, if you all have lat/longs for these entries, and can do a transcription search for kelp....that might be really interesting as a source of historical data!

Note, one of the science team members also has some mold CA maps of kelp that might be of interest to you.
